Freckle Face acquired the latest Digital Betacam camera, the Sony 970, only to Toast it on the first day!
Freckle Face added the new Digi Beta to the kit to shoot Toasted TV over six months under contract to Channel Ten.
Toasted TV is a national morning cartoon show hosted by new talents, Pip Russell and Dan Sweetman shot on location at Movie World on the Gold Coast.
The show is an energetic, unpredictable, fun start to the day for kids of all ages. With regular game show segments and superstar guests, sports and crazy cooking segments, the show openly dares the audience to make the host's jobs as hard as possible.
Craig and Suzi worked with Channel Ten Producer, Steve Bergin to complete the week's six episodes in a two day shoot. That's twenty-four minutes of hostings per/day, rain or shine with kids and the occasional animal, filmed on the streets of a working theme park.
The Sony 970 is perfect for the job. Lighter than it's predecessors the camera is well balanced for a day of hand-held shooting. The 8 second cache also helps when shooting with kids and animals.
Early episodes included some blue/green screen shots. The digital betacam is still much better than the newer highly compressed high definition formats for chromakey.
The new camera kit is future-proofed with two new Fujinon HD lenses including a spectacularly sharp extreme wide angle.
Over all, the kit rates a "Loaf" (5 out of 5) and survived the Toaster without a singe.
